Home Treatments and Bed Bugs

We rarely get a call for a Bed Bug Treatment where we don’t find a can of store bought insecticide in the house. Upon discovery of the dreaded pest, most people will try the home treatment route, either because of perceived cost savings or they just don’t understand how difficult bed bugs are to eradicate. Over the counter sprays are just not as effective as professional grade, mainly because they lack residual activity in the active ingredient. These sprays, (including rubbing alcohol) will kill the pest on direct contact but most will get exposed upon emergence from their harborage for a blood meal. Professional grade insecticides stay active for up to 30 days vs a few days for over the counter products. Domestic sprays usually result in the client knocking back the population but unable to fully eradicate the pest. As well, the longer an infestation lingers, the chances of dispersion throughout the home increase exponentially. With Bed Bugs, often your first cost is your best cost.
