Meet Halo – The Bed Bug Dog
Pretty cute huh! She also has a nose that can reliably sniff out a bed bug and eggs. She belongs to Ken Linville at Focuss Canada and we rely on her as part of our Integrated Pest Management Solutions. We often get called for inspections where the client is getting bites and suspect a bed bug infestation but we are unable to visually ID the pest. This is because the bed bug is notoriously insidious and stealth. Infestation will normally start as an introduction which may only be 1 – 2 bugs but remain so well hidden that they are impossible to find. As well, many dermatological issues and allergens can mimic bed bug bites. Halo is highly trained in scent detection and is able to ID the pest (or not) before committing to expensive treatment programs. She can also be brought in after treatment to ensure eradication.
